Some Neighborly Cheer

The last two and a half weeks we have been knocked out with the nasty bug that has been going around.  Definitely not fun.  Our sweet neighbors (who are in there 80's) across the street heard we were all down with it and left us a pot of the most glorious stew I have ever had.  The next day I sent the cleaned pot back with a request for the recipe (two, actually- I also was trying to get a recipe for  cookies they had made us...we have kind neighbors!).  I was informed he doesn't have a recipe for the stew,  he just throws it together.  Big sad face.

BUT...an hour or so later, there was a knock at the door, and our neighbor friend was standing there with this in his hands:

It was full of cookie dough when he brought it! :)

Double surprise!  First, we have that EXACT same Pyrex bowl!  Which leads me to wonder if they have any more Pyrex beauties in those cupboards over there... ;)  Second, what was in that beautiful bowl was the exact cookie dough I had wanted the recipe for! He had whipped up a batch AND provided the recipe, which just happens to be his mother-in-law's recipe.  He thought it would give the girls something to do while they were recouping from said nasty bug.

These cookies are subtly amazing!  Big pieces of orange peel are in the glaze that you dip the cookies in after they bake.  YUM!  Just the kind of edible sunshine we needed to brighten our hospital ward home.

Dipping cookie in orange glaze...mmmm!
Sorry about the pictures...it's dark in the wee hours of the morning!

One word of caution: Don't try to bake at midnight (something that is becoming a habit for those of us keeping baby hours!), after not sleeping more than 2 hours in a 24 hour period, or you may end up with this:

Sad, broken Pampered Chef Bar Pan

when you try to heat up this:

(ooops...wrong burner :/ )

Just sayin.

  3. Where do I find neighbors like yours?! They are so sweet. I have a list of sweets that I want to eat, starting with some of that shortbread you made and now ending (for the time being) with these yummy sounding cookies. Glad everyone is doing better over there! Love to you all.
