A Sweet Mobile

A while back I finished a fun project for the littlest bee.  I knew I wanted to make her a mobile from the start, and thanks to my mom and sister, I had the main components already.  Last year (I can't believe it's coming up on a year!), we had a woodland baby shower, and my sister made me some adorable little critters.  My mom had also scored an old mobile (straight from the 80's- jean bears and all!) for me.  I had an idea of what I wanted to do, and got to work...

The cast of characters

Vintage jumbo ric rac and bias tape are AWESOME!
It's Plain Jane now, but...

I had sooo much fun putting this together! I got to hang out in the garage, late night with my honey, listening to some cool tunes and working side by side on projects...his being restoring old bikes  (super-cool! Definitely needs a separate post!)...

And the finished product?

She looooves her mobile, and I'm so glad. It was a labor of love from her family that adores her.  Up next will be the quilt that her grandma made, followed by a peak into the girl's room. :)

A Beach Baptism

Earlier this month our sweet 7 year old decided she wanted to be baptized.  She has really been growing in her faith, and we are so excited at the things we see God doing in her life. She had a very special day (along with several others from our church) at the beach, making a public statement of her inner commitment to follow Jesus.  It was definitely a beautiful day!

After everyone was done, it was time to celebrate with swimming, picnics, and exploring...and a nap or two...

Isn't it cool- this guy not only has a star on his back, but an entire galaxy! After lots of curious small hands had a gentle feel, this little star made it's way back to his rocky home. Definitely God's handiwork, and a beautiful gift for us all.

October: Now Playing

It's no secret- fall is the best season EVER! Cooler, blustery days. Leaves turning gorgeous shades of red, gold and orange. Apples, pumpkins and butternut squash in abundance. Sandalwood incense burning, mixed with the smell of something baking with cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. And the best of fall is definitely wound up in the lazy days of October. Around here, October means baking, fort building, trips to pumpkin patches, brisk walks in the chilly night air, date nights in cozy places with pastries and hot coffees, snuggles on the couch with chubby hands and bedtime books. In the background, the sounds of Nora Jones, Eva Cassidy, Brad, Neil Young's Harvest Moon (and/or Pearl Jam's cover of it:) ) are a must. But the album that is the epitime of fall would have to be U2's The Unforgettable Fire. Seriously- if you've never heard it, or if it's been a looong time since you have, do yourself a favor and play it this month. Every day.  It's that good, and it perfectly sets the mood for October. Listen to it all the way through, with no interruptions.  Light some incense, snuggle down on your couch with a hot cup of something, and play it loud. Then come back to the comment section and tell me how it was...and what's on your fall playlist. :)
